Waste oil is harmful! How to identify? Read one article

There must be three meals a day, and there is a huge market demand for edible oil. It is precisely because of this that some lawless elements began to put their abacus on edible oil, and the low-cost and high-profit "gutter oil" was repeatedly banned in the market, and news broke out frequently that broke the bottom line.

  What is gutter oil?

Gutter oil generally refers to all kinds of inferior oil existing in life. Gutter oil can be divided into three categories: first, gutter oil in a narrow sense, that is, oily floating objects in sewers or leftovers from hotels and restaurants (commonly known as swill) are simply processed and refined; Second, the oil produced by processing and refining inferior pork, pig offal and pig skin; Third, the oil used for fried food is reused after it has been used for more than a certain number of times, or it is reused after adding some new oil to it.

The extracted gutter oil is still mainly composed of triglycerides, but it contains many harmful substances. Eating these "gutter oil" may destroy people’s white blood cells and digestive tract mucosa, cause food poisoning and even cause cancer in severe cases. Therefore, "gutter oil" is strictly forbidden to be used in the field of edible oil.

What harm will cooking waste oil cause?

  (1) indigestion. In the refining process of "waste oil", a series of chemical changes will take place in oil, resulting in many toxic substances. For example, arsenic, once people eat "waste oil" containing arsenic, is likely to cause symptoms such as indigestion, headache, dizziness, insomnia, fatigue, liver discomfort and so on.

  (2) diarrhea. No matter from the source, collection process or refining process, the sanitary problems of "waste oil" are obvious. Once a large number of harmful microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi are eaten, it will cause people’s diarrhea, and in severe cases, it will cause people’s nausea and vomiting.

  (3) Abdominal pain. The "gutter oil" is mixed with a lot of sewage, garbage and detergent. It is simply refined by underground workshops. Although it looks clean, it can’t remove bacteria and harmful chemical components at all. All "gutter oil" has the phenomenon that the lead content exceeds the standard seriously. Eating the food processed by "gutter oil" with excessive lead content will cause severe abdominal cramps, anemia, toxic liver disease and other symptoms.

  (4) Gastric cancer and intestinal cancer. Aflatoxin and benzopyrene are contained in the "raw materials" of cooking waste oil.
These two toxins are carcinogens, which can cause gastric cancer, intestinal cancer and malignant tumors in breast, ovary and small intestine.

  How to identify waste oil?

  (1) Look at transparency. Pure vegetable oil is transparent, while the transparency of "gutter oil" will be poor.

  (2) smell the oil. Rub a drop of oil on your hand and smell it carefully. If it smells, it is probably a quality problem. If it smells, it is probably gutter oil.

  (3) Taste the oil. The oil with sour taste is unqualified, the oil with bitter taste has been rancid, and the oil with peculiar smell may be waste oil.

  (4) listen to the sound. Take out one or two drops of oil at the bottom of the oil layer and coat it on flammable paper. After lighting it, listen to the burning sound. The products with normal combustion and no noise are qualified products; If the combustion is abnormal and makes a "squeaky" sound, the water content exceeds the standard and it is an unqualified product; The "crack" explosion during combustion indicates that the water content of the oil is seriously exceeding the standard, and it may be adulterated products, so it is absolutely impossible to buy.

How to avoid eating waste oil?

  1. Reduce the intake of edible oil, and buy regular brand edible oil with QS certification or organic certification in big supermarkets. Try not to buy bulk cooking oil. Bulk cooking oil (mixed with waste oil, peanut oil and soybean oil) is the main sales channel of waste oil.

  2. Try to eat in restaurants as little as possible, especially in low-end restaurants. In the era of soaring prices, their strict cost control not only increases the possibility of purchasing waste oil, but also urges them to reuse the oil that is close to waste oil and should be discarded.

  3. When eating in restaurants, try to order less fried and oily dishes, and eat less oily dishes, including fried staple food and crispy noodles.

  4. When you eat in a restaurant, when you find that the dishes are greasy and have a particularly high viscosity, you should suspect that you may eat gutter oil or poor quality oil.
